About Our Hosts: Clubhouse International, Fontenehus Norway, and Fontenehuset i Oslo Welcome You!

Clubhouse International is a global non-profit, non-governmental organization that works to end social and economic isolation for people living with mental illness by developing, training and supporting Clubhouse model programs in communities across the world. Clubhouses are community-based centers that offer members opportunities for friendship, employment, education, wellness support and help accessing healthcare and social services through a single-caring and safe environment. Clubhouses provide a welcoming environment and a place to belong; and hope for a satisfying and successful future. There are currently nearly 300 Clubhouses in 30 countries around the world. Every two years, Clubhouse International hosts a World Seminar offering a multitude of innovative training sessions. World Seminars offer opportunities for participants to network with Clubhouses around the world, mental health advocates, and people with lived experience.

Fontenehus Norge is the coalition for the 14 Norwegian Clubhouses in Drammen, Tromsø, Bergen, Oslo, Oslo East, Bærum, Hønefoss, Rygge, Kongsberg, Stavanger, Harstad, Asker, Gjøvik and Trondheim. Fontenehus Norge has three employed staff and a board of Directors. The coalition mainly works with political influence and starting new clubhouses.

About Lillestrøm, Norway

Lillestrøm is a town located some 18 km (11 mi) east-northeast of Oslo, the capital city of Norway. With a population of some 14,000 inhabitants. The name means “the little [part of] Strøm”, Strøm being the name of an old and large farm (Old Norse: straumr, which also meant “stream” as well).

Lillestrøm’s history dates back to the times river powered sawmills came into use for the production of building materials. Later Lillestrøm got its own steam sawmill which laid the base for the development of the area which became the town. The area was, by and large, a moss covered swamp-like area, at the time considered almost uninhabitable. However, the almost non-existent property values were judged to be a fair exchange and so the workers started living and settling in the area around the sawmill, and Lillestrøm was born.

Facilities in Lillestrøm include hotels, Norway trade fairs, a brand new cinema, a mall, Lillestrøm torv, restaurants, a high speed commuter train that reaches both Oslo and Gardermoen airport, a community cultural house (kulturhus), a community outdoor swimming pool complex, and a variety of restaurants.
